Welcome to the City of Salmon, a small rural community of 3,300 residents nestled in the mountains of Central Idaho.  Located along the Salmon River, "The River of No Return", the City of Salmon is proud of its rich history that includes strong traditions of mining, lumbering and family ranching.  Lewis and Clark crossed the Continental Divide in 1805 into the Salmon Valley during their expedition to the Pacific Ocean and received essential supplies and information from Sacajawea's people, the AgaiDika Shoshone.

Today, the City of Salmon upholds its reputation as a community tied together through traditional family values and a sense of community.  In 2004 the City was recognized as an Idaho Heritage City and Community of Promise by the Association of Idaho Cities and was recently honored as one of the 100 Best Cities for Young People by America's Promise organization, founded by Collin Powell. In 2006 Lemhi and North Custer County Economic Development received one of four Great Strides Awards from the Northwest

Area Foundation. Recently, the Salmon Hockey Program was featured in the USA Hockey Magazine, and contains  a wonderful description of what makes Salmon such a great place to live.

Continuing its strong natural resource heritage, the City of Salmon's innovative spirit can also be seen in new industries and businesses that include light industrial manufacturing of technical innovations, whitewater rafting, outfitting and other recreational services.
